| 05/10/2009 - LEND Update | |
| From October 2009 activities supported by LEND will change. | |
BACKGROUND LEND is a peer learning network of local employers who want to encourage disabled people into their workplace by providing a supportive and accessible working environment. LEND has facilitated this by providing regular information and training opportunities for members to meet and learn as well as by providing newsletters, fact sheets and a website. From now on these services will cease. WHY ARE CHANGES TAKING PLACE? Funding for the above type of activity has reduced significantly. Intowork, who established LEND in 1995 and have supported it in the intervening period, has had no funding to support LEND activities since the end of June 2008. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR LEND? If Intowork is to continue to support LEND members, the focus of activities will have to change. Specifically, the focus will shift from one where, in the past, information events provided an opportunity to learn the theory of good employment practice, to one where this learning is put into practice. |
Along with other local, employment support agencies, Intowork is now a member of the High Support Needs Employment Consortium, funded through the European Social Fund. Intowork and its partners want to continue to provide services to LEND, but these services would have to be of a more practical nature where LEND members work directly with Consortium members to assist in the process of supporting people into employment. This could take many forms. For example, the Consortium could provide training, advice or support for your staff, help with the recruitment process, and practical support in the work place to both employee and employer. In return, LEND members could offer practical opportunities including short job tasters, short/long work experience placements, help with interviews or site visits where jobseekers can learn about different types of work environment. |
| WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Through to the end of 2009 and early in 2010 representatives of the Employment Consortium will be in touch with LEND members to discuss these various options and how they can be tailored to meet their organisation’s individual needs. For further information see the information leaflets below. |
